2010 Mt. Pilchuck Snow Hike

February 20th, 2010

Josh and I decided that it would be fun to hike Mt. Pilchuck in the snow this year, and since it's one of my favorite views around, it was all set. Luckily the weather cooperated and we had beautiful clear sunny skies the entire way.

Josh brought his snow shoes, and I rented some (still haven't bought any yet) but the temp was very low and as a result the snow was quite hard and easy to simply walk on top, even though it was many, many feet deep. The one thing I wish I'd had was a set of khatoola micro spikes to keep from slipping in some of the spots, but next time perhaps.

As it was, we took a slightly more direct ascent than we did during our summer hike, but didn't shave off nearly as much total distance as I would've expected. Josh only logged the return trip but here's the Runkeeper Log for that.

The summit was beautiful in the snow, and there were a few people that came up after us who were planning on camping at the old lookout for the night. Luckily for them it looked like they brought some warm gear!

Definitely a great hike, and the view is simply stunning and in some ways more so during the winter. If you can get up there on a nice clear day, you definitely should.
